About me
Cameron Akbari, MD, is a double board-certified vascular surgeon at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and MedStar Health Vascular Surgery at McLean, and he is a Professor of Surgery at Georgetown University. He performs a wide range of vascular and endovascular procedures, including complex lower extremity open bypass and endovascular intervention, open and endovascular aneurysm repair, carotid surgery, and dialysis access surgery.
Dr. Akbari is especially well recognized for his contributions and expertise in lower-extremity limb salvage, with more than 30 years of experience and over 100 original publications and book chapters. Dedicated to providing comprehensive care to patients facing limb loss, he works closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes specialists in plastic surgery, podiatry, infectious disease, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Together, they have developed a vascular-plastic approach that combines microsurgical reconstruction with open and endovascular revascularization to maximize limb preservation and function. His expertise often draws patients seeking second or third opinions for complex vascular conditions.
Dr. Akbari earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. His general surgery and vascular surgery training was at the University of Connecticut and at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Dr. Akbari is an active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He has been repeatedly recognized as a Washingtonian Top Doctor, earning induction into the publication's Top Doctor Hall of Fame.
