About me
Dr. Atnafu attended medical school at the Gondar College of Medical Sciences in Ethiopia prior to finishing his medicine residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, a teaching affiliate of SUNY. He completed his fellowship in infectious disease at SUNY Upstate University Hospital. Dr. Atnafu is board certified in infectious disease and internal medicine. As an infectious disease specialist, he treats patients with a variety of conditions, such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, bone and joint infections, and varied skin infections.
Philosophy of care
Dr. Atnafu believes that not only is expertise vital in providing patients with the best outcomes, but also having a doctor who listens to their concerns, answers their questions, and provides care that is compassionate and respectful. “I care for the patients I see—whether in an inpatient setting or in the outpatient clinic—with empathy and kindness.”
