About me

Guy Travis Clifton, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgical oncologist and Surgical Chief of Melanoma at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He treats a variety of cancer types with a special focus in the treatment of melanoma, sarcoma, and other cutaneous malignancies.

Dr. Clifton performs advanced surgical procedures, along with cutting-edge procedures such as tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy and oncolytic virus therapy. He also specializes in robotic surgery and other minimally invasive procedures. He believes in a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach and is committed to offering more clinical trials, both before and after surgery, to improve cancer outcomes and decrease morbidity and/or complications.

A retired U.S. Army Colonel, Dr. Clifton served more than 20 years in military medicine, including multiple deployments and leadership roles. He has also contributed to the development of new cancer therapies in the private research sector.

With over 80 peer-reviewed publications, he remains actively involved in melanoma research, including studies on neoadjuvant therapies and advanced staging techniques.

Philosophy of Care

I aim to be open and responsive both with patients and referring doctors. I value building strong relationships and leveraging a multidisciplinary approach to provide the best outcomes for patients.
