About me
Jemima (Mima) Akinsanya, DO, is a fellowship-trained neuroimmunologist and Assistant Professor of Neurology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She serves as the Director of the Georgetown Multiple Sclerosis Center at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, where she is the first MS specialist to serve Prince George’s County in over a decade.
Dr. Akinsanya earned her medical degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, and then completed her neurology residency at Emory University, where she served as a chief resident. She completed a prestigious clinical research fellowship in neuroimmunology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
With specialized expertise in autoimmune and inflammatory disorders of the central nervous system, Dr. Akinsanya delivers comprehensive, compassionate care with a strong emphasis on education, empowerment, and shared decision-making. Her team-based approach ensures that patients are active participants in every aspect of their care.
She brings a deep commitment to advancing equitable care, focusing on improving access to care for underserved populations and increasing the representation of diverse communities in clinical research. She is also invested in mentoring the next generation of neurologists and building innovative partnerships between academic and community organizations to advance MS care and research.
