About me
Jennifer Rosen, MD, FACS is Chief of Endocrine Surgery and Vice Chair for Research of the Department of Surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She serves on the Collaborative Endocrine Surgery Quality Improvement Program Committee of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) and sits as a representative of the College to the Commission on Cancer (COC), a program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). She has been active on numerous committees of the American Thyroid Association (ATA) and serves as Endocrine Section Editor for the Journal of Surgical Oncology. For more than five years, Dr. Rosen served as The Laszlo N. Tauber Assistant Professor of Surgery and Molecular Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine.
Dr. Rosen specializes in the surgical treatment of diseases of the endocrine glands, including the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal. In addition to surgical techniques, Dr. Rosen works closely with endocrinologists, nuclear medicine physicians and radiologists in order to determine proper testing as well as the best treatment options for each patient.
Dr. Rosen received her undergraduate degree fromthe University of Pennsylvania and her medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University Medical College. She then completed her residency training in general surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center before completing her fellowship training in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Her clinical interests include treating patients with complex, advanced or recurrent endocrine disease and improving patient outcomes through the use of clinical studies and tailored treatment. Her research interests include bringing in new technology and tools for diagnosing thyroid nodules as well as discriminating cancerous nodules from benign nodules. Dr. Rosen has previously patented tools that are now being used at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She is currently interested in improving genetic studies in order to predict thyroid cancer in individuals as well as putting together large national databases to look at what improves survival in patients with thyroid cancer.
Dr. Rosen's practice utilizes laparoscopic approaches to procedures of the adrenal gland and minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery techniques. She also uses nerve monitoring, intraoperative parathyroid hormone measurements, intraoperative ultrasound and 4D-CT scan for localization of abnormal parathyroid glands. These techniques allow Dr. Rosen to offer more precise surgical procedures through smaller, less invasive incisions.
When not advocating for the development of the research infrastructure at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Dr. Rosen enjoys spending time with her three children, gardening, knitting, practicing yoga and traveling.
"Every patient has their own story and their own history. We do our best to take care of each patient as a unique individual by tailoring their care to them. My goal is for my patients to feel very comfortable asking me questions. I aim to build strong relationships with my patients through my caring and compassionate nature as well as my ability to empathize. We have a wonderful office staff that is great at getting patients through all of their care. I also continue to see my patients through their care after surgery and make sure that they are taken care of.
I joined an academic practice because I believe that it's not only important to practice, but to teach. The ability to communicate to my patients and help them understand their diagnosis and treatment is something I take great pride in. I am always available to answer questions from referring physicians. I practice in a group with two wonderful colleagues, and we hold multiple CME events. I enjoy working with my referring physicians to familiarize themselves with my philosophy of care.
