About me
Kathryn Ramey, NP (Kathryn Peacher)
Kathryn Ramey is a dedicated Nurse Practitioner specializing in Gastroenterology at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, where she has provided exceptional care for over three years. In addition to her role at MedStar Southern Maryland, she serves as the lead Advanced Practice Provider in Gastroenterology for the DC region of MedStar Health, demonstrating her leadership and expertise within the field.
Ramey’s journey in nursing began in 2008 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, where she gained invaluable experience in the emergency department. It was during this time that her passion for gastroenterology emerged, as she encountered numerous patients with complex digestive diseases. This early exposure laid the foundation for her commitment to improving the lives of patients with gastrointestinal conditions.
Currently, Ramey provides comprehensive care to more than 1,000 patients annually across both inpatient and outpatient settings. She addresses a wide range of general gastrointestinal issues while also dedicating one day each week to a specialized clinic focused on pancreas and biliary diseases.
Ramey’s primary area of expertise lies in liver hepatology, where she diagnoses and treats liver conditions such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and fatty liver disease. Her patient-centered approach is set apart by a commitment to shared decision-making, ensuring that each patient is actively involved in their care. She places great importance on building strong, trusting relationships with her patients, fostering open communication and mutual respect. This personalized approach enhances patient engagement and adherence to treatment plans, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes.
A member of the American College of Gastroenterology, Ramey remains at the forefront of her field by engaging with peers and staying informed about the latest guidelines and clinical advancements.
