About me
Nathan Nair, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon within the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Department of Neurosurgery, and director of the hospital’s neurosurgical residency program. He is also an associate professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery and member of the Brain and Spinal Tumor Board.
Dr. Nair treats a variety of conditions affecting the brain, neck, and spine using surgical, nonsurgical, and minimally invasive techniques. He specializes in treating aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVM), brain tumors, and spinal stenosis. His research interests include surgery for brain metastases, and the global and regional impact of disease, including stroke.
Dr. Nair’s philosophy of care is to value every patient as an individual, focusing on developing specific treatment plans unique to each person. He also believes in following a conservative, nonsurgical approach to care whenever possible. Dr. Nair collaborates with specialists throughout a wide range of clinical departments to examine all treatment options before considering surgery. When surgery is necessary, however, he presents patients with all appropriate surgical techniques and recovery expectations to ensure the best possible outcome with minimal pain and recovery time. Essential to his approach is including patients in the treatment plan.
Dr. Nair received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He went on to complete his internship, residency and a fellowship in neurosurgery at the University of Washington Medical Center. He is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons, as well as president of the Washington Academy of Neurosurgery.
