Dr. Megan Lockwood is a rheumatologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University.

Dr. Lockwood sees patients in the rheumatology practice at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH) where she is the director of the Lupus Program. Under Dr. Lockwood's leadership, the Lupus Program at MGUH was designated an official site in the Lupus Clinical Investigator Network (LuCIN), a national network of medical research institutions with lupus expertise. Dr. Lockwood is actively involved in clinical research trials investigating therapies for systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis, serving as site principal investigator for multiple studies.

Dr. Lockwood cares for patients with all types of rheumatic disease, with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders such as systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Lockwood's clinical and research interests are in systemic lupus erythematosus, pregnancy in rheumatic disease, antiphospholipid syndrome, and osteoporosis.

She recently co-edited Interdisciplinary Rheumatology: Rheumatology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology (Routledge/Taylor & Francis, 2026), and co-chairs the STELLAR-Project, a national Lupus Research Alliance working group developing the use of low disease activity and remission as endpoints in lupus clinical trial design.

Nationally, Dr. Lockwood is actively involved with the American College of Rheumatology (ACR). She recently served on the ACR national taskforce that developed updated guidelines for the treatment of Lupus Nephritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Dr. Lockwood is from Portland, Oregon and attended Portland State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree with Honors in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Physics and served as a volunteer with AmeriCorps. She then served in the United States Peace Corps as a science teacher in rural Ghana for over two years. She earned her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Lockwood completed residency in internal medicine at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Lockwood completed her rheumatology fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital, the largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where she continues in her role as online teaching faculty for the Training-to-Teachers program.
