About me

Mohit Gupta, MD, is an Associate Professor of Urology and the Director of Urologic Oncology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. As a urologic oncologist, Dr. Gupta specializes in the treatment of kidney, bladder, prostate, upper-tract, testicular, and adrenal cancers.  His priority is to ensure that every step of a patient’s treatment process – from the initial clinic visit to their surgery – is performed safely and effectively.

Dr. Gupta’s expertise stems from years of specialized surgical experience, including both open and minimally-invasive techniques. He has extensive training in the use of laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic-assisted surgery for complex urologic cancers. Incorporating cutting-edge robotic technology allows Dr. Gupta to enhance surgical precision and often shorten recovery times for his patients. For cases where robotic surgery is not feasible, Dr. Gupta is one of the few surgeons in the Washington, DC region whose skillset includes conventional open surgery techniques.

Dr. Gupta, who is certified by the American Board of Urology, earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed both his internship and residency training in urology at the University of Florida. He further specialized his clinical skillset at The Johns Hopkins Hospital during a fellowship in urologic oncology, a prestigious two-year specialized training program in urologic cancers that is accredited by the Society of Urologic Oncology. Following his training, Dr. Gupta served as a surgeon and an Assistant Professor at NYU Langone Health in New York, NY prior to joining the team at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in 2022.

With numerous professional and academic accolades to his name, Dr. Gupta has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles, including multiple publications that have helped shape official guidelines published by the American Urologic Association (AUA). His research has been published in respected journals, including the Journal of Urology and European Urology. He is an active member of the AUA, European Association of Urology, and Society of Urologic Oncology. He is also a frequent and highly-sought speaker at national conferences and academic meetings.

Outside of his busy practice, Dr. Gupta enjoys exploring the vibrant restaurant scene and cultural events of Washington, D.C. He also active at his local CrossFit gym and values spending time with his family and close friends.

Philosophy of Care

Peers and patients regard Dr. Gupta as a diligent, compassionate physician. “As a urologic oncologist, my job is to help guide patients through the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of their urologic cancers. My commitment to attention to detail extends to each aspect of patient care, aiming not only to treat the disease but also to guide patients through their cancer journey safely and effectively.”

“Each patient’s cancer is unique, and as a result, each patient’s treatment plan needs to be individually tailored, taking into account their quality of life and personal preferences. My role is to serve as partner during what can be one of the most difficult times in a patient’s life; by working together, we can determine the best treatment options to pursue for each patient. I understand that a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, and I am dedicated to ensuring that my patients receive not only top-notch medical care but also the support, understanding, and empowerment they need throughout their treatment.”

“At Georgetown, I am able to collaborate closely with medical and radiation oncologists as part of a multidisciplinary team at Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Washington, DC’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. This collaborative approach ensures that each patient benefits from the collective expertise of a team, contributing to a tailored treatment plan.”

“Your health and confidence in your treatment journey remain at the forefront of my practice, and I am eager to guide you through a personalized and comprehensive approach to urologic cancer care.”
