About me
Mohit Gupta, MD, is an Associate Professor of Urology and the Director of Urologic Oncology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. A highly trained urologic oncologist, Dr. Gupta specializes in the treatment of kidney, bladder, prostate, upper-tract, testicular, and adrenal cancers. His foremost priority is ensuring that every step of a patient's care—from the initial consultation through surgery and recovery—is delivered safely, effectively, and with the highest level of precision.
Dr. Gupta brings extensive surgical expertise encompassing both open and minimally invasive techniques. He has extensive training in laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic-assisted surgery for complex urologic cancers. By incorporating advanced robotic technology, Dr. Gupta can enhance surgical precision and often reduce recovery times for his patients. In cases where robotic surgery is not feasible, Dr. Gupta is one of the surgeons in the Washington, D.C. region whose skillset includes conventional open surgery techniques.
Board certified by the American Board of Urology, Dr. Gupta earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed his internship and residency in urology at the University of Florida, followed by a prestigious two-year fellowship in urologic oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. This specialized training program is accredited by the Society of Urologic Oncology and focuses on advanced management of urologic cancers. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Gupta served as a surgeon and Assistant Professor at NYU Langone Health in New York before joining MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in 2022.
Dr. Gupta has an accomplished academic and research portfolio, having authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications. Several of his works have contributed to official clinical guidelines issued by the American Urological Association (AUA). His research has been published in leading journals, including The Journal of Urology and European Urology. He is an active member of the AUA, the European Association of Urology, and the Society of Urologic Oncology, and is a frequent and highly sought-after speaker at national conferences and academic meetings.
Philosophy of Care
"As a urologic oncologist, my role is to serve as a partner during what can be one of the most difficult times in a patient's life. Each patient's cancer is unique; therefore, each patient's treatment plan needs to be individually tailored, accounting for both clinical outcomes and personal quality of life. My commitment to attention to detail extends to each aspect of patient care, aiming not only to treat the disease but also to guide patients through their cancer journey safely and effectively.”
“At MedStar Georgetown, I collaborate closely with medical and radiation oncologists as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center—Washington, D.C.'s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. This collaborative approach ensures that each patient benefits from the collective expertise of a team and has a tailored treatment plan.”
Personal Interests
Outside of his practice, Dr. Gupta enjoys exploring the vibrant restaurant scene and cultural events of Washington, D.C. He is an active member of his local CrossFit gym and values spending time with his family and close friends.
