About me
A renowned expert in urologic cancer, Nancy Ann Dawson, MD, holds appointments at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, the Georgetown University Medical Center and Medstar Montgomery Medical Center. She is Professor of Medicine and Oncology and Director of the Genitourinary Medical Oncology Program. Her medical career includes clinical care and research in urologic cancers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
An active researcher, Dr. Dawson holds numerous grants for phase I, II, and III clinical trials. Her work has contributed significantly to the standard of care for urologic cancers over the years, earning her many awards and recognitions. Chief among them is the Legion of Merit -- the highest non-battlefield recognition awarded by the United States Armed Forces for exceptional performance and outstanding service--which Dr. Dawson, a retired Army colonel, received in 1999.
Dr. Dawson is regularly included in U.S. News & World Report's "Best Doctors in America" rankings, and "Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care," "Who's Who in American Women," and "Who's Who in Science and Engineering."
Dr. Dawson's Philosophy of Care
I have specialized in urologic cancers (prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancers) for more than 30 years, overseeing cutting-edge clinical trials that have resulted in the approval of many of today's current therapies and authoring guidelines for how to best manage these types of cancers. I view my relationship with my patients as a partnership and share my knowledge so they understand their cancer and treatment options and can share in decision-making. My expertise and caring personality combined have consistently resulted in a "5 Star" rating from my patients.
