About me

Nardos Temesgen, MD, joined as a member of the MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute in August 2022. She practices as an interventional cardiologist at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Temesgen is board certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine. She is a member of several professional societies, including the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and the American College of Cardiology.

Originally from Ethiopia, Dr. Temesgen earned her bachelor of science degree from Virginia Common Wealth University in 2011 and her medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, in 2015. She then completed her internal medicine residency, and an advanced fellowship in cardiology and interventional cardiology at George Washington University.

Dr. Temesgen treats patients with acute coronary syndrome, coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and women with cardiovascular disease. Her approach to treatment is guided by her desire to perform procedures based on necessity that is minimally invasive. To this end, she performs percutaneous coronary intervention using the radial approach. She also uses the latest technologies, such as intravascular imaging (IVUS, OCT) and coronary physiology assessment (FFR, IFR ), to understand lesion pathology and to optimize percutaneous interventions. Dr. Temesgen is also passionate about preventive care and education about cardiovascular diseases. She is especially concerned about the rising rates of young people suffering from heart disease.

Philosophy of care
“My goal is to practice medicine with humility, passion, and compassion. From personal experience, I know how challenging it can be to navigate the healthcare system. I want my patients to know that I am determined to help and guide them to receive the best care possible. As an advocate for my patients, I always listen to their concerns and put them first. When working with referring physicians, I am dedicated to working as a team and maintaining an open mode of communication to provide the best care possible.”
