About me
Peter Turkeltaub, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Georgetown University Medical Center, and is director of the aphasia clinic at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Turkeltaub is a member of the Center for Brain Plasticity and Recovery, a joint program of Georgetown University and MedStar National Rehabilitation Network that focuses on the study of neural plasticity, the biological process that underlies the brain's ability to learn, develop, and recover from injury. His research and clinical work focuses on improving recovery of speech and language functions after stroke or brain injury.
Prior to MedStar NRH, Dr. Turkeltaub completed his residency and fellowship in cognitive neurology at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Medical Doctor degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and his PhD in Neuroscience from Georgetown University.
Dr. Turkeltaub is a member of the board of the National Aphasia Association, and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, Society for Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology, Society for the Neurobiology of Language, and the Academy of Aphasia. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He received the Founders Award from the American Academy of Neurology in 2011, and was the recipient of a 2012 Clinical Scientist Development Award from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
