About me
Dr. Sara K. Inati is a senior, board-certified neurologist practicing at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, specializing in surgical epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. She has extensive experience in the comprehensive evaluation of patients considering surgical options for seizures that are not well controlled by anti-seizure medications. Dr. Inati is committed to providing personalized assessments of the potential risks and benefits of these interventions, combining information from non-invasive and invasive electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings, neuroimaging studies, and functional brain mapping in preparation for surgery.
After completing her undergraduate studies at Harvard University, Dr. Inati's distinguished medical career began at Dartmouth Medical School and continued with neurology residency and fellowship training in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. She has more than a decade of experience as a surgical epileptologist and is an active member of the wider epilepsy community, including participation in respected national organizations. She is recognized as a Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society and has served on numerous national committees and grant review panels.
In addition to her clinical interests, she is deeply committed to medical education, training future generations of epilepsy clinicians and researchers. She has served as Epilepsy Fellowship Program Director for many years, participated on related committees, and mentored numerous clinical and research trainees. Dr. Inati is also dedicated to clinical research, primarily focusing on using imaging and neurophysiology to identify seizure sources and better understand how they spread within the brain. She is widely published in leading journals, presents at major conferences, and serves as a reviewer for several eminent medical journals. Through these efforts, she consistently works to enhance patient outcomes and drive innovation within the field of epilepsy.
Dr. Inati's clinical and research partner is Dr. Kareem Zaghloul, a neurosurgeon trained and specialized in epilepsy surgery. Together, they perform thorough clinical evaluations and manage patients with complex seizure disorders, working as a team to offer state-of-the-art, customized treatment options for each patient. They share the goal of returning patients to the care of their referring physicians for collaborative ongoing management.
