Jesse M. Pines MD, MBA, MSCE is the Chief of Clinical Innovation at US Acute Care Solutions. In this role, Dr. Pines leads efforts in artificial intelligence, alternative payment models, telemedicine, research, and other innovative programs. He serves as Director of the USACS Fellowship in Clinical Innovation. Dr. Pines has received multiple awards for his work including the 2023 Colin Rorie Jr. Award in Health Policy by the American College of Emergency Physicians for his work developing the first ever government-based alternative payment model in the field of emergency medicine.
Dr. Pines is also a practicing emergency physician and Professor of Emergency Medicine at Drexel University and a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at George Washington University (GW).
Prior to joining USACS, Dr. Pines held several University leadership and teaching roles at GW and Penn, including serving as the Director of the Center for Healthcare Innovation & Policy Research (CHIPR) at GW and Director of GW’s Center for Health Care Quality (CHCQ). He was also the principal investigator for Urgent Matters, a program that disseminates information on best practices in emergency care.
Dr. Pines earned a bachelor's in the biological basis of behavior and a master's degree in clinical epidemiology from University of Pennsylvania (1995), and a medical degree and an MBA from Georgetown University (2001). He completed a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center (2004) and a fellowship in
research at the University of Pennsylvania (2006). He has also completed the Master Teacher Leadership Development Certificate Program at GW School of Education & Human Development (2018). Dr. Pines has a newfound interest in wellness and completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at University of Arizona (2025). He works as a part-time physician at Eterna Integrative PLLC in Tysons, VA.
Dr. Pines is author on more than 370 peer-reviewed publications and has eight published books. His most recent book was published by Wiley in March 2023 titled Evidence-Based Emergency Care: Diagnostic Testing and Clinical Decision Rules, 3rd edition, Eds Jesse Pines, Fernanda Bellolio, Christopher Carpenter, and Ali Raja. His forthcoming work is also being published by Wiley in fall 2025 titled Quality Measurement In Healthcare, 1st edition, Eds Jesse Pines, Jane Hyatt Thorpe, and Helen Burstin.
He is a regular contributor to Forbes, Medscape, and MedPage Today. He has also published articles in TIME magazine, Slate, Emergency Physicians’ Monthly, Foreign Policy Magazine, ACEPNow, Dallas News and the Wall Street Journal.
