Electrophysiology Lab upgrades bring advanced cardiac care closer to home. For people with heart rhythm concerns, having advanced care close to home can make the path to treatment feel easier and more reassuring. Our recent electrophysiology (EP) lab renovation intends to do exactly that, significantly expanding access to advanced cardiac care in Southern Maryland.
With these enhancements, our team can now perform left-sided ablations for atrial fibrillation (AFib) locally, a major advancement for patients who previously needed to travel to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for this specialized procedure.
At the center of the update is a next-generation image-guided system designed to enhance precision, efficiency, and patient safety. With low-dose radiation technology and advanced 3D mapping and imaging, electrophysiologists can more precisely identify and treat abnormal heart rhythms.
The lab also includes advanced cardiac catheterization technology, including stent boost imaging and integrated visualization tools that help interventional cardiologists see coronary structures clearly while guiding procedures.
These tools support safer, more efficient procedures and expand the range of complex interventions available right here in our community. By bringing these advanced electrophysiology and interventional cardiology capabilities closer to home, our team at MedStar Southern Maryland is helping our community stay healthier—without having to go far.
