Our newly designed hand center is located in the same office as the MedStar Orthopaedic Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Whether you have a traumatic acute injury or need care before and after surgery, you can count on our hand therapists and specialists to work together to tailor a treatment plan that works for you.

Hours of operation:

Monday: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Thursday: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Friday: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Carly Bland, MS, OTR/L, CHT, Clinic Director

    Carly Bland attended Stony Brook University where she received a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Carly then completed a master's degree in occupational therapy at Thomas Jefferson University. Carly earned her hand therapist certification (CHT) in 2019. She specializes in the following areas:

    • Overuse Injuries and Tendinopathies (tennis elbow, golfer's elbow and DeQuervain's tenosynovitis)

    • Post-Fracture Management

    • Splinting and Custom Orthosis Fabrication

    • Tendon and Nerve Injuries and Repairs

  • Katie Huppi, MS, OTR/L, CHT

    Katie attended Tulane University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology. Katie then completed her master's degree in occupational therapy from Rush University. Katie earned her certification in hand therapy in 2021 and specializes in the following:

    • Overuse Injuries and tendinopathies (tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and DeQuervain's tenosynovitis)

    • Post-Fracture Management

    • Splinting and Custom Orthosis Fabrication

    • Tendon and Nerve Injuries and Repairs


  • Kayley Carnes, MS, OTR/L

    Kayley attended the University of Scranton where she received her bachelor’s degree in health sciences and master’s degree in occupational therapy. Kayley is currently enrolled in the Medstar Physical Therapy’s hand therapy mentorship program and is working towards obtaining her hand therapist certification (CHT) and specializes in the following:

    • Overuse Injuries and tendinopathies (tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and DeQuervain's tenosynovitis)

    • Post-Fracture Management

    • Splinting and Custom Orthosis Fabrication

    • Tendon and Nerve Injuries and Repairs

  • Shannon M. Griffiths, MS, OTR/L, CHT


    Shannon Griffiths attended D'Youville College where she received a dual bachelor’s and master's degree in Occupational Therapy with a minor in Psychology. Shannon went on to finish a Hand Therapy Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital and earned her Hand Therapist Certification (CHT) in 2023, and she specializes in the following:

    • Overuse Injuries and tendinopathies (tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and DeQuervain's tenosynovitis)

    • Post-Fracture Management

    • Splinting and Custom Orthosis Fabrication

    • Tendon and Nerve Injuries and Repairs

    • Degenerative Changes

    • Manual Techniques including IASTM
