MedStar VNA partners with George Washington University (GWU) to educate future nurses

ELKRIDGE, MD (March 29, 2017) – MedStar Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) recently  teamed up with George Washington University’s School of Nursing to give future nurses valuable experience in the home healthcare industry. During a five-week program, MedStar VNA’s D.C. and Suburban MD agencies will host 10 GWU nursing students, as they learn clinical home healthcare practices, regulations, and infection control methods.

Now entering into its second session, Nadine Kidd, director of Education, MedStar VNA says, “The program has been a great success. The students learn about the clinical practices, challenges and benefits of home health care through a unique hands-on experience.” This partnership not only highlights MedStar VNA’s commitment to education and local educational institutions, but also their effort to foster the future workforce of home health care. “These students represent our future. We want to see them succeed and help them recognize that they have options outside of the more traditional healthcare settings,” said Kidd.

MedStar VNA is enthusiastic about expanding its business relationships with local universities and colleges. “We are eager to continue this program,” said Suzanne Proctor, vice president, Business Development. “Collaboration with local universities is critical to developing the clinical expertise needed to better serve our communities.
