Domestic Violence Program and Sexual Abuse | MedStar Health

When arriving to the ED for injuries due to domestic violence, there is help in more ways than one. Domestic violence and assault support programs are available for all patients as needed, including counseling and the creation of a safety plan. You can feel confident knowing that the medical professionals at MedStar St. Mary’s are specifically educated and trained on the different signs of abuse in order to help break the cycle.

About our domestic violence program

MedStar Health Domestic Violence (DV) Program educates and trains hospital associates to identify victims and refer them to collaborating agencies. The hospital collaborates with the Department of Social Services, law enforcement, state’s attorney’s office, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the Patuxent Naval Air Station, and nonprofits Walden. and Three Oaks Center to connect victims to all avenues of assistance. Walden offers counseling services for both the victim and the abuser and Three Oaks Center can provide a victim with housing assistance.

Domestic violence workgroup

MedStar Health is creating a domestic violence workgroup as part of our Patient & Family Advisory Council for Quality & Safety. The Patient & Family Advisory Council for Quality & Safety (PFACQS) is composed of patients, family members and/or friends of patients, and community leaders, as well as healthcare professionals who work together to improve patient care and the patient experience.

Community partners who are directly involved in efforts to reduce domestic violence are invited to participate in the workgroup. Please call 301-475-6008 for more information.
