About me
Mireille D. Truong, MD, is the Division Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and a board-certified minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon specializing in robotic surgery. She works at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, MedStar Health at Leisure World and Lafayette Centre.
As a women’s health specialist, Dr. Truong is an expert in treating women with fibroids, endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, and other gynecologic conditions.
Dr. Truong specializes in minimally invasive procedures, including complex surgeries such as hysterectomy, myomectomy, cerclage, and endometriosis surgery. Her expertise in robotic surgery, laparoscopy, and hysteroscopy (including in-office hysteroscopy) allows her to provide effective treatment with faster recovery times, fewer complications, and reduced pain. As a strong advocate for women’s health, she dedicates herself to improving access to gynecologic surgery, raising awareness, and enhancing women’s health.
On the cutting edge of the latest developments in AI technology and new robotic systems, Dr. Truong is focused on improving her patients’ quality of care and life, especially for those women suffering from endometriosis. She has been recognized nationally for her surgical videos, expertise in robotics and surgical simulation, and is known for her research on robotic surgery, endometriosis, fibroids, disparities in gynecologic surgery and surgical education and simulation.
Dr. Truong has received numerous awards throughout her career, including the AAGL Signature Award: Jerome J Hoffman Best Paper Award, the Best Paper in Diversity and Inclusion in MIGS, and the Best Gynecology Scientific Paper from the Society of Laparoscopic Surgery. She was a Top 4 Finalist for the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Innovation Award.
Passionate about education, Dr. Truong mentors medical students, residents, and fellows in career development and research. Prior to her appointment at MedStar, she founded the MIGS fellowship program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Dr. Truong completed her medical training at Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Medicine. At the University of Illinois at Chicago, she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Next, she did two fellowships, one in surgical simulation at Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement & Robotic Surgery Institute Celebration Health Florida Hospital and the other in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center. She then returned to Virginia Commonwealth University where she obtained a postgraduate certificate in medical education.
Dr. Truong has held multiple leadership positions in national and international organizations. She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons, the Society of Gynecologic Surgeon, the Society for Robotic Surgery, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, and the American Medical Association.
In addition to her clinical work and research, Dr. Truong is a certified yoga instructor. She speaks English, Spanish, French, and Vietnamese.
Philosophy of Care
“I got into medicine because I wanted to help and empower women, especially those suffering from poorly researched or understood conditions. As a woman myself, I am passionate about advocating for my patients. Outside the clinic, I teach yoga, and my approach to care is influenced by the philosophy of treating the whole rather than just the condition. I want my patients to know that I will always listen and ensure that they feel heard and understood. I believe in shared decision-making when developing treatment plans.
“I am eager to work with the wider medical community and referring physicians to provide the best possible care to our patients. I pride myself on always being available for collaboration and consultation, and I believe we are here to learn from each other.”
