MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center maintains highest standards through 15-year cycle for unique distinction from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

BALTIMORE — The Breast Center at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center has again earned Accredited status by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), for a distinctly rare fifth consecutive year. This significant achievement underscores MedStar Health’s long-term commitment to providing the highest standard of care for patients with breast diseases.

Achieving accreditation from the NAPBC for five consecutive accreditation cycles is a significant accomplishment, as hospitals must consistently meet or exceed rigorous standards during each three-year evaluation.

Following a meticulous evaluation and site visit by NAPBC surveyors, the Breast Center at MedStar Franklin Square demonstrated full compliance with the program’s standards, which encompass leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.

As an accredited NAPBC center, MedStar Franklin Square has also earned distinction as an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. This designation recognizes the hospital’s unwavering dedication to excellence in surgical care and its role as a leader in advancing the quality of care for patients in its community.

“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious accreditation for a fifth year. It demonstrates our leadership in delivering the highest level of patient-centered, multidisciplinary care to individuals facing breast disease,” said Mahsa Mohebtash, medical director of MedStar Health Community Oncology. “The high standards to earn this distinction are, and have been, our program for more than 15-years. No one in the region can say that.”

The accreditation process ensures that patients have access to comprehensive care, including:

  • A full range of state-of-the-art services
  • A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
  • Information about ongoing clinical trials and research

While specific statistics on the frequency of this achievement are not widely published, it is relatively rare due to the high level of dedication, multidisciplinary collaboration, and continuous quality improvement required to maintain accreditation over such a long period.
