Dr. Khanna is the incoming physician executive director of the MedStar Orthopaedic Institute, Washington Region; chief of Orthopaedic Surgery, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital; and academic chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is an experienced, board certified, fellowship trained spine surgeon.
Dr. Khanna comes to MedStar Georgetown from Johns Hopkins Medicine, where he was vice chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Johns Hopkins University, where he was a professor in the departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Biomedical Engineering.
He offers patients the full spectrum of treatment options, from non-surgical approaches to minimally invasive surgery, open surgery, and complex spinal reconstructions using intra-operative CT-based image guidance, navigation and robotic techniques. Dr. Khanna has special expertise in the treatment of patients who have had prior spine surgery, require revision surgery or treatment of adjacent disc levels.
Dr. Khanna earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University and the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is a dual-trained spine surgeon with background and expertise in both neurosurgical and orthopaedic spine surgery. His orthopedic surgery residency training was completed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and his spine surgery fellowship was at the Cleveland Clinic Spine Institute in the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosurgery.
He is an active member of numerous medical societies including the North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and has written several books and published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters on a range of topics in spine and orthopedic surgery.
