About me
Jose Parungao, MD, is a gastroenterologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of digestive disorders, applying the latest medical approaches and technologies to optimize outcomes for his patients. He holds special interest in colorectal cancer screening and hepatobiliary disorders, and received specialized training in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), during his medical training.
Prior to joining MedStar Health, Dr. Parungao worked as a staff gastroenterologist at United Medical Center in Washington D.C. In addition to his clinical practice, he has devoted time to medical research in his field, publishing articles in numerous industry publications and presenting abstracts at several national conferences, with focus on the progression and continued advancement of care for patients with gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.
Dr. Parungao is certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Additionally, he is fluent in both English and Filipino/Tagalog.
“I love being able to participate in my patients’ health improvement and well-being as a lifelong partner. Gastroenterology allows me to facilitate and innovate the endoscopic skills and techniques I learned during my training, and practice them to help my patients reach their goals.“—Dr. Jose Parungao
