About the Provider

Lee Ann Richter, MD, is a urologist with fellowship training in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (urogynecology).

Dr. Richter is one of the few urologists in the country with obstetrics and gynecology-based training in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (urogynecology).  Her subspecialty training and surgical background make her uniquely qualified to treat all female urology and urogynecologic issues, including pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic floor disorders, fistula repairs, kidney stones and hematuria. Dr. Richter has extensive training in minimally-invasive surgical techniques, including vaginal, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted surgery.

Dr. Richter has an extensive research background. She is the principal investigator and recipient of an investigator-initiated grant examining the effect of vaginal estrogen cream for post-menopausal women with microscopic hematuria.  She frequently lectures on urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse on a national level, and has been recognized for her research, presenting regularly at national scientific meetings.

In addition to her work in Washington DC, she travels yearly to Rwanda with the International Organization for Women and Development to perform fistula surgeries for women who suffer from this debilitating condition.  Her professional career is focused on utilizing her diverse training in both urology and urogynecology to provide the highest quality of care to patients.

Philosophy of Care:
"There are so many successful treatment options for urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Fortunately, women are becoming more comfortable sharing their concerns. It is exciting to be an advocate and provider for women with these issues."
