About the Provider

Dr. Groah is currently the Director of the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Research program at MedStar NRH, and Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Georgetown University. Dr. Groah was the Project Director of the RRTC on Secondary Conditions in the Rehabilitation of Individuals with SCI (2003-2016) and Project Director of the National Capital SCI Model System (2006-2011). She has a subspecialty certification in SCI from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR), and was a writer for the ABPMR SCI Subspecialty Examination from 2006-2015. She is currently conducting research with grants from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the National Institute for Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research. She reviews regularly for numerous peer-reviewed journals, serves as an Associate Editor for Topics in SCI Rehabilitation, and has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles. She has been an expert panel member for the PVA Consortium Guideline on Bladder Management and is currently Co-Chair (with Dr. Mark Nash) of the upcoming PVA Consortium Guideline on Carbohydrate and Lipid Disorders after SCI. She is also an Associate Editor of the 2017 text, Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. She has served as a grant reviewer for the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, PVA and Department of Defense. She provides expert consultation to the Department of Justice on rehabilitation issues, has been identified in "Best Doctors in America" for D.C. and has been nominated for the NSCIA SCI "Hall of Fame".
After completing her residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), Dr. Groah completed two rehabilitation fellowships: a research fellowship on Aging with SCI and a clinical fellowship in Neurorehabilitation, both at Craig Hospital.  She received her MSPH from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center at the same time. Dr. Groah received her MD from the Medical College of Virginia.
