About me
Angelica Nocerino, MD, is a fellowship-trained gastroenterologist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Nocerino is committed to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care and offering advanced motility testing for conditions affecting the digestive tract.
Dr. Nocerino earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. She completed her internship, residency, and fellowship in gastroenterology at Northwell Health–Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, NY, where she served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine and Chief Fellow in Gastroenterology.
Dr. Nocerino specializes in general gastroenterology as well as gastrointestinal motility disorders, with a focus on the workup of esophageal conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and swallowing disorders, including eosinophilic esophagitis, esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction, and achalasia. She utilizes advanced diagnostic technologies and physiologic motility testing to develop a precise understanding and diagnosis of esophageal disorders. Her expertise includes the use of EndoFLIP™, which measures esophageal distensibility and motility during endoscopy—making MedStar Georgetown University Hospital one of the few centers in the region to offer this technology. She also performs high-resolution esophageal manometry to assess swallowing function, as well as wireless and catheter-based pH testing to evaluate and characterize acid reflux.
In addition to esophageal conditions, Dr. Nocerino provides diagnostic evaluation for anorectal motility disorders. She performs anorectal manometry to assess the muscles involved in defecation, aiding in the diagnosis and management of conditions such as chronic constipation and fecal incontinence. She finds that using motility testing in her practice allows for a more precise understanding of the causes of common gastrointestinal conditions.
She works closely with referring providers and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care. Dr. Nocerino is dedicated to tailoring treatment plans to each individual patient to enhance overall health, well-being, and quality of life.
Dr. Nocerino has been published in several peer-reviewed medical journals, including The American Journal of Gastroenterology, Journal of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Digestive Diseases and Sciences, and Practical Gastroenterology, and has presented her work at national conferences.
