About me
Dr. Danny Shearer is a board-certified gastroenterologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders, including colon cancer, pancreatic disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and liver disease.
Dr. Shearer’s practice focuses on early detection, prevention, and therapeutic interventions. He regularly performs procedures such as colonoscopy, endoscopy, hydrogen breath tests, and lab tests. With decades of experience, he remains committed to staying at the forefront of emerging gastroenterological treatments, taking a thorough diagnostic approach to find the best option for his patients.
Dr. Shearer has a holistic approach to patient care, understanding that digestive health is closely tied to overall well-being. He believes in educating his patients, addressing concerns with compassion, and providing comprehensive, individualized treatment plans. Patients often come with complex and challenging cases, and he prides himself on offering clear guidance and making sure patients understand their conditions and options.
A Washington, DC, native, Dr. Shearer was born at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center, marking the beginning of a lifelong connection to the region. His medical journey began at Howard University, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1991. Before that, he completed a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. Following medical school, he completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Washington Hospital Center.
Dr. Shearer’s professional career began in 1996 when he joined Gastrointestinal Associates. He dedicated over a decade to the practice before transitioning to Gastroenterology Consultants of DC as an owner and partner from 2009 to 2019. From 2004 to 2022, he served as Medical Director of the Capital Endoscopy Center. In 2019, Gastroenterology Consultants joined MedStar Medical Group. Currently, Dr Shearer splits his time between MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the Annapolis clinic, and he is proud to extend his experience and quality of care to the broader community.
Dr. Shearer is a member of the American Gastroenterologists Association and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Philosophy of Care
“I treat each patient as I would want my family to be treated—with care and compassion. I’m a good listener and always take the time to hear out my patients’ concerns without interrupting.
It’s important to me that patients know that I’m very supportive of how they feel mentally and physically. Gastro issues can be complex, and I always conduct a careful diagnosis to recommend the best treatment they need to get back to living a healthy, normal life.
I often collaborate with colleagues such as surgeons, oncologists, and internal medicine specialists. They should know I’m always willing to communicate, give and receive feedback, and support their patients just as they support mine.”
