About me

Deborah A. Hoy, MD, MDiv, is a neonatologist dedicated to the care of newborn infants who need specialized attention due to critical illness or premature birth. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Hoy is also the medical director of Neonatal Transport and the director of the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

Dr. Hoy embraces MedStar Georgetown's philosophy of caring for the whole patient and family. That philosophy enables her to provide care for newborns with critical needs and also spend significant time with parents, helping them navigate their child's care during and after the hospital stay. Focused on providing evidence-based, leading-edge care, Dr. Hoy also participates in research.

Caring for infants and their families is both career and ministry for Dr. Hoy, who holds a master's of divinity and is an ordained pastor. She spends up to two months per year caring for patients and providing education in the Caribbean and South Africa. She also works with clergy in the Washington, DC, area, teaching them how to talk about HIV/AIDS in their congregations. In addition, she serves on the board for the Washington Regional Transplant Community and is active in educating the community about organ donation.

Dr. Hoy was very thoughtful and thorough.

Doctor mentioned postponing daycare enrollment given the viral infections going around. While I understand where the suggestion came from, it's kind of weird for a practitioner to assume that parents can just do that given the economic realities in place for most parents. I have to put my kid in daycare so I can go back to work, you know?

Dr Hoy is so wonderful at calming and addressing our first-time parent concerns. Our daughter is thriving under her care!
