About me
Keitaro Nakamoto, MD, is an acute care surgeon at MedStar Health and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is part of a team of surgical specialists who care for patients at all four of MedStar Health’s Baltimore region hospitals.
Patients in need of traumatic, critical, and emergency-based procedures often present in hospital emergency rooms requiring acute care surgery. Dr. Nakamoto is trained to perform these urgent procedures with use of minimally invasive and robotic techniques. Some of the most common surgeries he performs include laparoscopic hernia repairs, cholecystectomies (gall bladder removal), and colon procedures.
Dr. Nakamoto earned his medical degree at the Okayama University Medical School. He then went on to pursue more than a decade of postgraduate training through clinical residency and fellowship programs in both Japan and the U.S. During this time, Dr. Nakamoto trained in surgery, general medicine, advanced gastrointestinal surgery, bariatric surgery, and minimally-invasive surgery.
Dr. Nakamoto is the lead investigator on a study funded by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) focused on the development and validation of virtual reality robotic simulation training. Additionally, he contributed two chapters of content for Pocket Surgery, published in 2022, concentrating on robotic surgical training.
