About me
Kristin Darwin, MD, is an obstetrician specializing in maternal-fetal medicine at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, MedStar Georgetown University, and MedStar Health Medical Center at Brandywine. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University.
Dr. Darwin is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of high-risk pregnancies. She sees patients for a wide range of conditions including, but not limited to, high blood pressure, pre-gestational and gestational diabetes, rheumatologic disease, thyroid disease, autoimmune disease, advanced maternal age, and genetic conditions that can affect mother and baby. She has a special interest in pregnant patients with hypertension, congenital heart disease, cancer before or during pregnancy, or a history of solid organ transplant.
Passionate about ensuring that every mother and baby have the safest and healthiest pregnancy possible, Dr. Darwin offers a wide range of services, including preconception counseling, consultations concerning high-risk pregnancies, and consultations regarding fetal anomalies. She offers cerclage placement for patients with a history of cervical insufficiency, as well as chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis for prenatal genetic diagnosis.
Most of her research has focused on COVID-19 vaccination in pregnancy and hypertension in pregnancy. Looking forward, she is highly interested in furthering obstetric research on patients with congenital heart conditions or a history of solid organ transplant.
Dr. Darwin attended Yale University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering. She then completed her medical training, gynecology and obstetrics residencies, and a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. Throughout her training at Johns Hopkins, she received several teaching awards, including the Chao-Huang Hung M.D. Humanitarian Award, given for exemplifying the ideals of compassion toward patients and colleagues.
For the past decade, Dr. Darwin and her family have called the greater Baltimore and DC area home, and she feels honored to serve her community.
Philosophy of Care
“It is my deep belief that every pregnant patient, regardless of history or circumstances, deserves compassionate and comprehensive care during their pregnancies. As a mother, I have a deep sense of empathy and compassion for the joys and challenges of giving birth, and I am especially sensitive to those dealing with high-risk pregnancies. As a healthcare provider, I am always available to listen to my patients’ concerns and work with them to ensure the healthiest pregnancy possible.”
