About me
Margaret “Maggie” Stevenson, MD, is a critical care cardiologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. As a dual-trained cardiologist and intensivist, she specializes in the care of patients in the cardiac ICU. She also practices general cardiology and echocardiography. She treats a broad spectrum of conditions – ranging from outpatient cardiac conditions and disease prevention to acute myocardial infarctions, arrhythmias, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiogenic shock.
Dr. Stevenson completed medical school at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, followed by internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She returned to the University of Connecticut for cardiovascular disease fellowship and completed her training with a second fellowship in critical care medicine at Stanford University.
Dr. Stevenson has an interest in medical education and serves in various roles amongst the internal medicine residency programs at MedStar, as well as the cardiology fellowship program. She enjoys working with trainees and playing a role in their development as physicians.
Philosophy of Care
“As much as is possible, I want the care I give to be patient-centric and patient-driven. Understanding an individual’s values and goals is hugely important for this, and something I strive to do. Then, helping patients to understand their condition(s) and potential diagnostic and therapeutic options becomes my goal – if we can do that, then a shared-decision making model with the patient and physician working as a team really becomes possible and allows patients to take the driver’s seat in their own health.”
