About me

Rimmy Farrakhan, MD, FACC is an interventionist cardiologist at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. Dr. Farrakhan is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology, adult echocardiography, and internal medicine.

Dr. Farrakhan specializes in minimally invasive, catheter-based procedures to diagnose and treat various cardiovascular and valvular conditions, which result in smaller incisions, faster recovery times, and fewer complications. Her clinical interests include coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, microvascular dysfunction, and heart failure, with a particular focus on improving outcomes for older patients with complex coronary disease who are not candidates for surgery.

Dr. Farrakhan is skilled in advanced procedures such as coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty with stent placement, intracoronary physiological testing, and inserting mechanical circulatory support devices. She is also certified in transesophageal (TEE) and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE).

Committed to staying at the forefront of cardiology, Dr. Farrakhan incorporates the latest technologies, such as drug-coated balloons and innovative plaque modification techniques, to offer the least invasive, most effective treatment options. Her care approach prioritizes safety, recovery, and long-term outcomes.

Dr. Farrakhan completed her medical training at Saint Louis University School of Medicine before completing her residency program in internal medicine at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She went on to complete two fellowships: one in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, and the other in Interventional cardiology at Stony Brook University Hospital.

She belongs to the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.

Dr. Farrakhan is fluent in Hindi.
