About me
Thomas Stringer, MD, MS, is a board-certified dermatologist in the MedStar Health Department of Dermatology and an assistant professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He practices at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the MedStar Health Medical Center at Chevy Chase.
In addition to common issues like skin checks, acne, psoriasis, and eczema, Dr. Stringer specializes in the evaluation, triage, and management of the full spectrum of dermatologic issues, including the many rashes, growths, or infections that may occur in the skin.
His clinical interests include complex medical dermatology as well as the close evaluation and management of nail disorders. These latter conditions may include brittleness, infection, psoriasis, and benign or malignant tumors of the nail unit. To better evaluate these problems, Dr. Stringer may perform procedures such as nail clippings or biopsies.
Dr. Stringer’s treatment methods include prescription topical medications, compounded agents formulated in specialty pharmacies, systemic oral immunosuppressives, and injectable biologic therapies. He also performs surgical excisions to remove troublesome benign or malignant skin growths.
Dr. Stringer received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation. He received the Department of Dermatology’s Marion B. Sulzberger Award for Excellence in Dermatology for his research. He then completed his internal medicine internship at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and a three-year dermatology residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Hospital.
Having spent much of his medical career in New York City, Dr. Stringer had the privilege of caring for a patient population with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. He’s passionate about bringing this experience to the Washington, DC area, where he can again serve an international patient population from all walks of life. Dr. Stringer also maintains a research interest in the impact of the changing climate on dermatologic disease.
Philosophy of care
“For me, the care of the patient comes first. The healthcare system can be difficult to navigate at the best of times, and I try to help my patients get the care they need in the most direct way possible. I pride myself on being thorough and persistent in working on my patients’ behalf so they can obtain a diagnosis and get the treatment that will work best for them.
“I feel professionally satisfied when my patients say they left their visits feeling that I have addressed all of their concerns and that they have a committed advocate in me.”
