MedStar Simulation Training & Education Lab (SiTEL) designs and delivers online education, experiential learning, and performance support tools for all roles across the MedStar Health system.
MedStar SiTEL is part of the MedStar Institute for Innovation (MI2), whose mission is to catalyze and create innovation that advances health care. We work closely with our academic partners, including the MedStar Health Research Institute, the National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare, the Georgetown University School of Medicine and School of Nursing and Health Studies, and the MedStar Health Office of Graduate Medical Education.
Vision and mission
Vision
Changing lives, one learner at a time
Mission
Create and deliver educational solutions that impact patient care
Core areas of expertise
Clinical simulation services operates simulation centers in Washington and Baltimore and a mobile simulation lab. We also provide in situ simulation services throughout the system and operate a large American Health Association certification program in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardio Life Support, and Basic Life Support training.
Learning research & design creates original learning content using a blend of video production, graphic arts and animation, serious game development, and instructional design.
Learning Technologies develops and maintains systems and tools that power learning at MedStar Health.
Clinical education is composed of clinical educators who contribute domain expertise to MedStar SiTEL education content.
Outreach services connects faculty, nurse educators, administrators, and other key educational stakeholders to MedStar SiTEL resources.
Continuing professional education develops and certifies credentialed education opportunities that are designed by and for the healthcare team.

Accreditations and affiliations
MedStar SiTEL is accredited by the following organizations:

MedStar SiTEL has earned accreditation as a clinical simulation organization by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) in the areas of Teaching/Education and Systems Integration: Facilitating Patient Safety Outcomes. Accreditation from SSH recognizes MedStar SiTEL’s status as a national leader in simulation education and training.

MedStar SiTEL is proud to be accredited by The American College of Surgeons Accredited Education Institutes (ACS-AEI). The ACS-AEI is a training institute for practicing surgeons, surgical residents, medical students, and members of the surgical team using simulation-based education.
They have set standards for how surgical education and training should be offered, with the goals of promoting patient safety through the use of simulation, development of new education and technologies, identification of best practices, and promotion of research and collaboration among their institutes.

In support of improving patient care, MedStar Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Affiliations
MedStar SiTEL is also affiliated with the following organizations:

As an authorized American Heart Association Training Center, MedStar Simulation Training & Education Lab supports the mission of the American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care Program to reduce disability and death from acute circulatory and respiratory emergencies, including stroke, by improving the chain of survival in every community and in every health care system.

MedStar SiTEL is an approved Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) training center. FLS is a comprehensive web-based education module that includes a hands-on skills training component and assessment tool designed to teach the physiology, fundamental knowledge, and technical skills required in basic laparoscopic surgery. The goal is to provide surgical residents, fellows, and practicing physicians an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery in a consistent, scientifically accepted format; and to test cognitive, surgical decision-making, and technical skills, all with the goal of improving the quality of patient care.

MedStar SiTEL is part of the ACOG (American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) Simulations Consortium. This group is dedicated to the development and implementation of unique, standardized, and validated simulation-based curricula as an adjunct to improve residency education and clinical competence beyond residency. In 2008 ACOG formed a Consortium of state-of-the-art simulation centers, with the goal of developing and validating a variety of Obstetrics and Gynecologic simulation-based curricula. MedStar SiTEL is one of 22 centers in the consortium geographically located across the United States.

MedStar SiTEL is an endorsed program of the American Society for Anesthesiologists Simulation Education Network (SEN). The network promotes learning through simulation and provides training to satisfy the American Board of Anesthesiology’s certification requirements.
