About me
Amy Fernow, DO, is a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and benign breast conditions. Dr. Fernow specializes in wireless lumpectomies, hidden scar techniques, and nipple-sparing mastectomies with resensation.
Dr. Fernow performs a wide range of breast procedures, including skin-sparing mastectomy, prophylactic/risk reduction mastectomy, oncoplastic breast surgery, and hidden scar surgery. She is particularly passionate about performing nipple-sparing mastectomies and using hidden-scar techniques to improve her patients’ quality of life post-surgery by helping them look and feel their best.
Dr. Fernow is an active participant in MedStar Health’s multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and frequently collaborates with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and radiologists to ensure the best outcomes.
Dr. Fernow received her medical degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Afterward, she completed her residency in general surgery at the Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio, and her fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology at Indiana University.
Before joining MedStar Health, Dr. Fernow spent a year practicing breast surgical oncology at the University of Alabama, where she had the privilege of working with a knowledgeable team of physicians and developed strong bonds with her patients. She belongs to the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Society of Surgical Oncology. She is board-certified in general surgery.
A wife and mother, Dr. Fernow loves spending time with her family. Her husband is from the greater Maryland area, and she now enjoys eating his favorite food, crab.
