About me

George Bittar, MD, is the Chairman, Department of Internal Medicine at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. He sees patients at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center at the White Square Professional building on Mondays and Thursdays. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Bittar treats patients with a wide range of cardiovascular issues including coronary artery disease/coronary atherosclerosis, hypertension, lipid abnormalities, valvular heart disease, and heart rhythm disturbances. He has a particular interest in preventive health and behavioral modification measures as they relate to heart disease, as well as the relationship between atherosclerosis and dementia.

Dr. Bittar chose the field of cardiology while in medical school when his mother developed acute congestive heart failure. For Dr. Bittar, it is important to listen carefully to each patient’s concerns and work with them to both diagnose and treat acute conditions. He also believes that it is equally important to focus on appropriate behavior modification to help his patients be proactive in maintaining good psychological and physical health.

As a longstanding member of the MedStar Health community, Dr. Bittar values his many relationships with referring providers as he understands the key role they play in the coordinated care of shared patients.
