About me
Maen Kamal, MD, joins MedStar Health as a board-certified gastroenterologist. His clinical practice encompasses diagnostic procedures and interventions, including screening and diagnostic colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, biopsies, dilations, flexible sigmoidoscopy, polypectomy, therapeutic endoscopy for GI bleeding, and variceal banding.
His areas of expertise include:

He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Obesity Medicine, and Gastroenterology and is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Dr. Kamal completed his fellowship at Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California; his residencies at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia and Saint Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland; and went to medical school at the University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan.
He believes in treating the whole patient, rather than focusing on specific isolated symptoms. He focuses on prevention rather than escalation with an emphasis on patient education and shared decision making.
He enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, kayaking, cooking, international travel and cuisine, as well as digital photography with an emphasis on landscape, wildlife, and travel.
He sees patients at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, and MedStar Health at Bel Air.
