About me
Phillip H. Lam, MD, is an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology physician at the MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. As a cardiology and heart failure specialist, Dr. Lam treats patients with varying levels of heart failure. He treats less advanced cases by prescribing medication and other therapies intended to reverse or slow the progression of their disease. For more advanced cases, he specializes in the management of heart transplants and mechanical support, including temporary as well as more durable mechanical circulatory support devices.
Dr. Lam’s specific research interests include risk prognosticators and medical therapies in patients with heart failure. He has published and contributed to papers in various high-impact journals, including the American Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the Journal of the American Medical Association Cardiology, the European Journal of Heart Failure, and the International Journal of Cardiology.
Philosophy of Care
"I believe that patients with heart failure should be treated on a spectrum. Care should begin with diagnosis and continue throughout treatment, whether the outcome is recovery or the need for more advanced therapies. I treat patients at all points of the spectrum.I always try to be the patient’s strongest advocate, and as such, I will always do my absolute best for an individual patient’s care.”
