About me
Richa Gupta, MD, MPH, is an advanced heart failure specialist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She is board certified in cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, and internal medicine. She is a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the Heart Failure Society of America.
Dr. Gupta provides care for patients with a wide range of heart failure diagnoses, including those with newly diagnosed and longstanding heart failure, as well as patients being evaluated for or who have undergone heart transplant or LVAD implantation. Her goal is to work with patients to control their symptoms and improve survival, but also most importantly to do everything possible to improve their quality of life.
From a research standpoint, Dr. Gupta is interested in improving care and outcomes for heart transplant recipients and the use of advanced imaging modalities in management of both transplant recipients and cardiomyopathy patients. She hopes her work will allow physicians to individualize care and prognosticate outcomes for these complex patients. She is also interested in ways we can improve quality of life for patients (and for women in particular) with heart failure, LVAD and heart transplant.
Dr. Gupta partners with referring physicians to help identify early signs of heart failure in their patients. She will provide a consult and help clarify a diagnosis if there is even a suspicion of progressing heart disease.
Philosophy of Care:
I believe in helping each person understand their disease and overall trajectory and providing guidance through their options. I also believe in treating my patients as I would expect my own family to be treated. In my conversations with patients, I am honest and transparent about their disease, what can be done, and what to expect with advanced heart failure therapies. Ultimately, I partner with each patient and their caregivers to create the best, individualized, plan of care.
