Arthur Weinstein, MD, MRCP, FRCP (C), FACP, FACR, board-certified in Rheumatology and Diagnostic Immunology, is currently Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center; Associate Chairman, Department of Medicine; and Director, Section of Rheumatology at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He received his medical degree from the University of Toronto Medical School in Toronto, Canada, and trained in internal medicine and rheumatology in Toronto and at the Hammersmith Hospital in London, England. He has been on the faculty of five medical schools: University of Toronto, University of Connecticut, New York Medical College, George Washington University, and Georgetown University.
He has written more than 100 clinical and research papers and chapters, is co-Editor of the Educational Review Manual in Rheumatology, and Rheumatology Section Editor of the online textbook, eMedicine. Dr. Weinstein was one of the first rheumatologists to study and report the use of methotrexate for RA. As a Director of Rheumatology fellowship programs for almost 20 years, he has a long-standing interest in education and has helped train more than 40 clinical and academic rheumatologists.
Dr. Weinstein serves as Chairman of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of the Lupus Foundation of Greater Washington (LFGW), President of the Rheumatism Society of the District of Columbia, and a member of the Committee on Appointments and Promotions at Georgetown Medical School. He maintains a clinical practice and clinical research program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Current research studies under way in the Section of Rheumatology include clinical/radiological research in African Americans with RA, molecular immunology of T cell dysregulation in SLE and other connective tissue diseases, studies of renal transplantation in SLE, effects of vitamin therapy on endothelial cell function in SLE, and therapeutic trials of new biological agents (anti-B cell and anti-cytokine) in SLE and RA.
Dr. Weinstein serves as Director, Section of Rheumatology, MedStar Washington Hospital Center and is a Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center.
