Society of Interventional Radiology Names Saher S. Sabri, MD, FSIR, President

Saher SabriWASHINGTON – Saher S. Sabri, MD, FSIR, chief of interventional radiology for MedStar Health and professor of radiology at Georgetown’s School of Medicine, has assumed the office of president of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) on April 14 for a one year term.

“As I step into the role of president, I look forward to continuing strong advocacy for interventional radiologists and ensuring our members are recognized for the value they provide to the healthcare system and improving patient access to high-quality care,” said Sabri in the SIR press release.

Sabri specializes in minimally invasive, image-guided therapy for the treatment of a wide variety of conditions, such as peripheral vascular disease, aortic aneurysms, portal hypertension, uterine fibroids, prostate hypertrophy, musculoskeletal pain management and local/regional therapy for liver, kidney, and lung cancer.

Sabir emphasizes individualized treatment catered to patients’ specific needs.

“I spend as much time as possible with my patients in order to present them with options that are most relevant to their specific diagnosis and treatment goals,” Sabri said. “Providing patient-centered care means that I am available to my patients before, during and after the procedure.”

Dr. Sabri graduated from the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine before completing a residency in diagnostic radiology from the University of Iowa and a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology from the University of Virginia. Sabri is a fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology, holds the American Board of Radiology in vascular and interventional radiology, and is a board examiner for the American Board of Radiology. He is widely published and regularly lectures both nationally and internationally.
