About me
Board-certified radiation oncologist Keith Unger, MD, is the Physician Executive Director of MedStar Health's Radiation Oncology Service Line, Chief of Radiation Oncology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and the Medical Director of RadAmerica. He is the Acting Academic Chair of the Department of Radiation Medicine and a Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He serves on the Medical Executive Committee of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Unger's clinical practice focuses on the treatment of complex gastrointestinal cancers, sarcomas, prostate cancer, as well as advanced radiation therapy techniques.
Dr. Unger completed his internship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, including a year as chief resident for Radiation Oncology. He received both his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Virginia, where he was the recipient of numerous academic honors and awards.
As a researcher and educator, Dr. Unger has been a co-author to multiple text book chapters and publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as a presenter at major medical meetings. His research focuses on the development of novel radiation therapy techniques and reduction in treatment-related side effects. He is an investigator for several active clinical and basic science research studies and his work has been supported by grant funding. He previously served as chair of the gastrointestinal committee for the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and serves a member of a physician advisory board for proton therapy.
Dr. Unger sees patients at both MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
