About me
Omar Taha, MD, MPH, FACP, is board certified in internal medicine and fellowship trained in hematology and oncology. He joins MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of a broad spectrum of hematologic and oncologic conditions, providing comprehensive, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s needs.
Dr. Taha’s clinical interests span both solid tumor oncology, as well as benign and malignant hematologic disorders, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary care and improving outcomes through precision medicine. He completed his fellowship training at the University of Florida, where he also earned a Master of Public Health and served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. His work includes extensive inpatient and outpatient experience and a strong commitment to academic medicine, mentoring medical students and residents.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Taha has contributed to published case studies and research in areas such as transplant-related infectious disease, cardiotoxicity in cancer care and sickle cell disease. His clinical and academic contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the Susan M. Bryan Humanism Award for Excellence in Clinical Care and election as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He has also been an active member of institutional committees, including the Hospital Transfusion Committee and the Sepsis Review Committee.
Dedicated to both patient care and education, Dr. Taha combines his experience in academic medicine and global health with a patient-centered approach that emphasizes compassion, clarity, and collaboration.
