Dave Bauer leads the Information Innovation Lab at the MedStar Institute for Innovation, which explores, builds, and scales information solutions and infrastructure that advances health and the healthcare experience for patients and providers. With a diverse array of talent across software and data engineering, data analysis, clinical informatics, quality assurance, and product and project management, the Information Innovation Lab focuses on applying advanced computational tools and process automation, developing and enriching MedStar Health’s learning and educational technologies, and providing data and analytics support for other innovation initiatives and teams.
Dave joined MedStar Health in 2013 as a product manager in the MedStar Health Simulation Education & Training Lab (SiTEL) and went on to lead and grow the Learning Technologies team within MedStar Health SiTEL. He is passionate about data visualization, usability, design, developing talent, and building teams, and finds endless joy in the challenges of applying innovative ideas to operational problems.
Prior to joining MedStar Health, Dave was a human factors engineer at Aptima, Inc. where he was the lead user interface designer on projects aimed at supporting decision-makers in the military, health care, and aviation domains. He holds a Master of Science in systems engineering from the University of Virginia where he was a National Library of Medicine medical informatics fellow and received his bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
