Hospitalist services

Hospitalists are physicians specializing in internal medicine, who are responsible for your care during the duration of your hospital stay. They serve as the liaison between you and your primary care physician and are also available to help you and your family better understand your illness, treatment options, and recovery.

A member of the hospitalist team is available 24 hours, seven days a week to address any acute medical issues you may have while in the hospital. They also check in on patients regularly, monitor your progress, review your test results, and address treatment changes or sometimes the need for specialist consults as necessary. Our hospitalists work together efficiently as a team, so you may be taken care of by more than one hospitalist depending on the length of your stay.

Once you leave the hospital, your care will return to your primary care physician, who will be informed about all the necessary details of your hospital stay. If you don’t have a primary care physician, a hospitalist may also assist with your post-discharge medical needs.

Meal and nutrition

Wholesome, nourishing, and well-balanced meals are essential to your treatment and recovery. MedStar Union Memorial Hospital makes every effort to provide nutritious meals prepared according to your providers' orders.
