Ariam Yitbarek, DNP, MHA, RN, NEA-BC, is senior vice president and chief nursing officer. She has more than two decades of experience at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, having joined as a staff nurse in 1998.
She served as a clinical manager, nursing director, and senior nursing director before joining the hospital’s senior leadership team in 2019 as vice president of Nursing Operations.
After a brief period as vice president and chief nursing officer at MedStar Southern Maryland, Yitbarek returned to the Hospital Center in 2023 as senior vice president and chief nursing officer.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science in Health Systems Management from George Mason University, and a doctorate in Executive Nursing Leadership from The George Washington University.
