MedStar Health's Wound Healing Institute at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital offers the most advanced wound care for complex or chronic sores, ulcers, and infections. Our comprehensive services range from diabetes education and wound prevention to sophisticated reconstructive surgeries that prevent limb loss. We also have experts in hyperbaric medicine, and we're the only hyperbaric oxygen therapy program accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society in Washington, D.C.

Our internally-known wound healing experts include specialists in plastic, podiatric, vascular, and reconstructive surgery as well as endocrinology, infectious disease, rheumatology, and internal medicine. Our nurses, advanced practice providers, and doctors are all committed to one thing—helping you to resume work, life, and your favorite activities.

Our Wound Healing Institute in Washington, D.C., is located on the first floor of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, an academic medical center. Because we're located inside the hospital, it's easy and convenient to access any other diagnostic or support services you may need within the same building, such as bloodwork or imaging.

Inside our clinic, you'll find:

  • 11 exam rooms where your wound experts will perform a thorough evaluation and consultation

  • Radiology services, including X-rays, in the event we need to learn additional information about your condition

  • The only hyperbaric medicine program in Washington, D.C., accredited with distinction by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society

Our surgeons evaluate and treat more than 20,000 patients every year. When nonsurgical approaches don't result in complete healing, our patients benefit from seeing the same doctors who perform advanced limb-saving surgeries in our familiar office. In addition, we work closely with our colleagues at MedStar Health's Wound Healing Institute at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore. Because all of these doctors and services are integrated into the same program, you can expect seamless, coordinated care for all of your needs.

Our experts are known internationally for their expertise in plastic, vascular, and podiatric reconstructive procedures. Our doctors regularly present on diabetic limb salvage surgery at lectures worldwide. In addition, they are actively involved in clinical research, publishing more than 50 wound-related papers and manuscripts each year. We're also teaching the next generation of plastic and podiatric surgeons, training more than 30 residents annually. Because we lead the latest research in healing techniques, we're equipped to handle the most complex cases that promote healing and your quality of life.
