The MedStar Health Research Institute volunteer opportunities

Whether an individual needs to meet requirements for an internship, gain exposure to the research environment, or is interested in exploring a new career, the Research Institute can offer some options.

Hospice of St. Mary's volunteer opportunities

Some of the ways you can help with direct patient care include:

  • Reading or talking with a patient

  • Staying with a patient while family members take a needed break or keep an appointment

  • Shopping or running errands for a patient

  • Providing transportation for a patient

  • Listening to patients and families

  • Helping patients write or tell their life stories

  • Cooking or helping with light household chores

  • Providing haircuts, manicures, or helping with makeup

MedStar St. Mary's volunteer opportunities

Our volunteers include adults, juniors, interfaith chaplains, and emergency drivers. We ask that volunteers be willing to commit to at least six months of service.

Adult volunteer services include:

  • Information desk assistants

  • Interfaith chaplains

  • Patient care assistants in Ambulatory Surgery

  • Gift shop clerks/cashiers

As a volunteer, you will serve the hospital in various ways including but not limited to:

  • Assisting MedStar Georgetown associates, patients, and visitors in inpatient and outpatient areas

  • Providing clerical assistance in hospital administrative offices

  • Guiding and escorting visitors and patients throughout the facility through our Wayfinding Program

  • Visiting and comforting patients through our Patient Comfort Assignments

  • Running errands and delivering reading materials to patients, families, and visitors throughout the hospital

If you're interested in volunteering at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, please complete our volunteer application.

After that, your application will be carefully reviewed, we’ll do a background check, you’ll complete a health check, and then you’ll go to orientation before you start volunteering.
