Dr. Gagel is a fellowship-trained cardiologist who specializes in cardiac imaging and diagnostics. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, cardiac MRI, and echocardiography. Dr. Gagel performs transesophageal echocardiography and interprets advanced heart imaging, including stress echocardiograms, cardiac and coronary CT scans, and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, to help evaluate heart health and guide patient care.

Dr. Gagel manages a range of heart-related conditions including: advanced heart failure, abnormal heart rhythm, including atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, valvular disease, and high cholesterol.

Dr. Gagel believes patient-centered care begins with taking time to understand each patient’s symptoms, concerns, goals, and values, recognizing that every individual and every medical condition is unique. His approach is guided by a commitment to treating patients as people, not just diagnoses, and ensuring they feel heard, respected, and supported throughout their care.

As a cardiologist, Dr. Gagel also sees himself as an educator and advisor. He helps patients understand their diagnoses, the reasoning behind their treatment options, and the steps that may lie ahead. By translating complex medical information into clear, easy-to-understand language, he wants his patients to feel informed and confident in their decisions. Dr. Gagel views the physician-patient relationship as a partnership in creating a care plan that helps patients achieve the best possible quality of life.

Education & Training

Dr. Gagel earned his medical degree from the University of Texas McGovern Medical School. He completed fellowships in advanced cardiac imaging at the University of California San Diego Health and cardiovascular disease at the University of Utah Health, where he served as chief fellow. His residency in internal medicine was completed at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

In addition to providing care, Dr. Gagel has an interest in healthcare business and economics as well as clinical topics. He has contributed to articles about cholesterol, myocarditis, cardiac MRI, and coronary artery calcium in publications including Cardiology Today and Medical Clinics of North America , as well as through The American College of Cardiology. He held research assistantships at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
