About me

Tania Anu Vora, MD, FACC, is an advanced heart failure physician practicing at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital. Before joining MedStar Health, Dr. Vora was the only advanced heart failure cardiologist serving the D.C., Baltimore, and Virginia branches of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group.

Dr. Vora specializes in identifying, evaluating, and managing patients with both acute and chronic heart failure, particularly end-stage heart failure; and infiltrative cardiomyopathies, including cardiac sarcoidosis and amyloidosis. She works with the advanced heart failure multidisciplinary team to complete comprehensive evaluations to determine if her patients are candidates for home inotropic therapy, left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, or heart transplantation.

Her clinical interests include treating all patients who have advanced heart failure; identifying patients who have progressed to stage D heart failure; and managing patients after receiving advanced heart failure therapies, such as LVAD and heart transplantation. She uses state of the art imaging and genetic testing to diagnose infiltrative cardiomyopathies, such as cardiac sarcoidosis and cardiac amyloidosis.

Her research interests include studying the role of genetics in infiltrative cardiomyopathies, the long-term prognosis of patients with infiltrative cardiomyopathies who receive advanced heart failure therapies, and how to utilize clinical tools to diagnose infiltrative cardiomyopathy early.

“My philosophy of care is rooted in the tradition of Georgetown University School of Medicine, where I spent most of my training; a tradition of cura personalis, which translates to ‘care of the whole person.’ It is important to understand a patient’s heart issues in the context of everything else going on with them to effectively treat them.”
