MedStar Health Hospitals Earn Honor Roll Recognition in 2026-27 Lown Institute Hospitals Index

MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital were named among the nation’s most socially responsible hospitals.

COLUMBIA, Md. — Two MedStar Health hospitals have been named to the 2026-27 Lown Institute Hospitals Index Honor Roll for their leadership in social responsibility.

MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital earned the distinction shared by fewer than five percent of acute care hospitals evaluated nationwide.

The Lown Hospitals Index graded more than 3,500 hospitals on a broad set of measures reflecting how well they deliver high-value and equitable outcomes. The index is the first national ranking to evaluate hospitals on social responsibility.

Main entrance to MedStar Washington Hospital CenterMedStar Washington was recognized among the top 10 hospitals in the nation for inclusivity. The hospital also ranked number one in Washington, D.C., in the categories of Social Responsibility, Patient Outcomes, and Patient Safety.

MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, MDMedStar Union Memorial ranked number one in Maryland for Social Responsibility and Patient Outcomes. It ranked among the top five hospitals in Maryland for Value of Care, Patient Safety, and Cost Efficiency.

In addition to the Honor Role recognitions, five more MedStar Health hospitals were named top performers in the index.
